Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How The Apple TV+ Show Will End... At the Moment.
The creative mastermind could not have predicted that Pluribus would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he remarks. “It was unexpected the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”
As the debut season of the hit series coming to an end—and a second season greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the fan response and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.
On the Overwhelming Audience Reaction
One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and fan theories surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.
“The experience is akin to force fed hot fudge sundaes and being laughing uncontrollably,” he explains. “It's amazing, but I hear about it anecdotally, and that's on purpose. I have never looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a bottomless pit I know I would get lost in and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”
In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to accept it graciously and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“It is not our goal to adjust our writing,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.
A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan See the Conclusion of Pluribus?
So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, does it imply they already know how Pluribus will ultimately end? In short yes… sort of.
“We have some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”
Then again, if all else fails, director and writer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.
“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but nobody's taking me up on that.”
Then again, why not reference the classics?
“I want Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan adds, smiling.
