Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position following another heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst streak since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He added, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat so far so let’s see.”
Familiar Issues and Player Response
Slot lamented recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is removed, we will always fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“But right now, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
